Detectives in Nairobi have launched investigations into a broad daylight robbery in which a man was robbed of KSh500,000 shortly after leaving a bank in the Central Business District (CBD).
According to police, the incident happened at around 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, moments after the victim and his colleague withdrew KSh2.5 million from a local bank.
How the Robbery Happened
Authorities reported that the two men parted ways after the withdrawal — one leaving with KSh2 million toward Wabera Street, and the other heading toward Luthuli Avenue with KSh500,000.
When the victim reached the Archives area, he was ambushed by a gang of about ten men who allegedly snatched the cash and fled the scene on foot.
Witnesses said the man shouted for help, but no immediate assistance came before police officers arrived and found him disoriented and shaken.
Investigations Underway
Police confirmed that CCTV footage from nearby buildings is being analyzed to identify the suspects and trace their escape route.
“We believe the suspects may have had prior knowledge of the cash withdrawal,”
said one investigator familiar with the case.
Detectives also plan to interview bank employees who handled the transaction to establish whether there was any inside coordination involved.
Recent Rise in CBD Robberies
The incident adds to a series of coordinated robberies targeting bank customers in the city center, prompting calls for increased security patrols and public vigilance.
Police have urged members of the public to seek armed escort or police assistance when handling large sums of money.
