The County Government of Machakos has strongly dismissed claims by comedian and businessman Sammie Kioko that it owes him money for services allegedly rendered through his tailoring and fashion business.
In a detailed statement issued by the Department of Finance, Economic Planning, and Revenue Management, the county described Kioko’s allegations as “unfounded, politically motivated, and driven by ulterior motives.”
County Denies Any Contract With Kioko
The county’s response came shortly after Kioko announced on social media that he had been forced to shut down his tailoring business due to financial constraints — suggesting that unpaid county contracts had played a role in his business collapse.
However, Machakos County maintained that no official record or contractual relationship exists between Kioko and the devolved government.
“No contractual, procurement, or supply relationship exists between the said individual and the County Government of Machakos,” the statement read.
“There is no record of a Local Purchase Order (LPO), delivery note, invoice, or any other contractual instrument to support the claims.”
County Accuses Kioko of Defamation and Political Motives
The statement, signed by Catherine Mutanu, the County Executive for Finance, accused Kioko of engaging in a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of Governor Wavinya Ndeti and her administration.
“These assertions appear to be part of a politically motivated scheme aimed at discrediting Her Excellency the Governor and undermining the integrity of the County’s leadership,” Mutanu said.
The county further warned that spreading unverified or defamatory claims could amount to “public mischief” and attract legal consequences.
“Such reckless allegations, made without evidentiary backing, amount to defamation and are designed to erode public confidence in the County’s governance structures,” the statement added.
