Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has been ousted as the Senate Majority Whip following a resolution by the Kenya Kwanza Majority Party coalition.
He will be replaced by Bungoma Senator David Wafula Wakoli, whose appointment takes effect immediately.
Speaker Amason Kingi delivered the announcement to the Senate on Tuesday, confirming that the coalition’s decision complied fully with Standing Order 22 and all required legal procedures.
According to the Speaker, the leadership change followed a Kenya Kwanza Majority Party meeting held on December 2, 2025, with minutes and an attendance list later submitted to his office by Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot.
The documentation indicated that coalition senators had resolved to remove Khalwale in line with Standing Order 22(5) and unanimously elected Wakoli as his successor.
“I am satisfied that the change was made in accordance with Standing Order 22(5) and (7) of the Senate, and meets the threshold required. The office holder, therefore, is Sen. David Waful Wakoli, MP,” Speaker Kingi stated.
Khalwale’s removal marks a notable restructuring within Kenya Kwanza’s Senate leadership.
As the new Majority Whip, Wakoli now steps into a pivotal role—tasked with rallying support for government business in the Senate and enforcing discipline among Majority Party members.
