Independent candidate Robert Riaga Ajwang, widely known as Money Bior, has voiced regret after spending KSh 40 million on his Kasipul by-election campaign, only to secure 519 votes—a result that has sparked widespread ridicule online.
Speaking during a candid radio interview on Monday morning, the businessman-turned-politician said he was disappointed by the outcome but remains determined to return in 2027, pledging to invest yet another KSh 40 million in his next political bid.
The Kasipul by-election, held following the fatal shooting of former MP Ong’ondo Were, attracted national attention due to high youth turnout and reports of extravagant spending by candidates.
Money Bior, who entered the race as an outsider hoping his wealth would sway an electorate fatigued by party politics, ran a flamboyant campaign. He traversed the constituency in luxury SUVs, hosted high-end cookouts, distributed branded merchandise, and even chartered a private helicopter for dramatic arrivals at rallies.
“It’s sad that I spent KSh 40 million only to end up with 500 votes,” he said, rounding down his tally for effect. “But in 2027, I’ll look for another KSh 40 million to give them again.”
His frustration became more evident as he reflected on his loss.
“I was very disappointed, and I can’t trust electorates again. Wanaimba ni mimi ni mimi, lakini kura ikikuja napata kura kama marks ya KCPE,” he said, comparing his vote count to poor exam scores.
