Nairobi, Kenya – Raila Junior, son of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has announced plans to restore his father’s legendary campaign vehicle, the “Hammer” Hummer H3, and preserve it as a historical symbol at the Kango Ka Jaramogi family mausoleum.
“My intention is to restore and take it to the museum at Kango Ka Jaramogi,” Raila Junior said, responding to online discussions about the vehicle’s current state.
From Campaign Vehicle to Political Symbol
The red Hummer H3 was gifted to Raila Odinga by supporters ahead of the 2007 general election, particularly benefactor Don Bosco Gichana. The vehicle quickly became a spectacle at campaign rallies, with supporters chanting:
“Hummer! Hummer! Hummer!”
Over time, the Hummer evolved into the “Hammer” (Nyundo), symbolizing Raila Odinga’s political force and appeal. The vehicle became more than just transport; it was a brand and an emblem of his political strength.
Preserving Kenyan Political History
Raila Junior emphasized that the restoration aims to preserve a tangible piece of Kenya’s political memory, transforming the Hammer Hummer into a museum piece for future generations to appreciate the Odinga family’s legacy in Kenyan politics.
