TikTok has suspended late-night LIVE access for millions of users in Nigeria following a sharp rise in broadcasts featuring explicit sexual acts and other adult content.
The platform issued an in-app notification informing users of the new restriction, which prevents them from going LIVE or watching LIVE streams between 11PM and 5AM (Nigerian time). Many Nigerian creators have since reported seeing their LIVE buttons dimmed and marked “No Access” during the restricted hours, confirming that the rule is already in effect.
According to TikTok, the suspension is temporary as the company reviews its safety protocols and cracks down on exploitative behaviour proliferating on the platform. However, TikTok did not specify when the restriction will be lifted.
The decision follows an alarming spike in policy-violating Nigerian LIVE sessions. In the second quarter of 2025, TikTok banned more than 49,000 LIVE streams originating from Nigeria for violating both monetization and community guidelines.
The late-night suspension forms part of a broader crackdown targeting harmful content across the country. Nigeria has quickly become one of TikTok’s most active enforcement markets. The platform recently pulled down over 3.6 million videos from Nigerian users for breaching Community Guidelines — a surge driven by explicit material, child-endangerment concerns, and monetized sexual activity on LIVE.
TikTok says its goal is to protect users, uphold safety standards, and ensure LIVE remains a space free from exploitation and harmful trends.
