Tukutane Entertainment, the organisers of the Asake concert held last Saturday at Nyayo National Stadium, have confirmed the death of a reveller following chaotic scenes during the event.
In a statement released on Monday evening, the company said investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death of Karen Lojore, a woman believed to have been in her early 20s.
“We are committed to approaching this situation with care, transparency, and accountability, and will share additional information as appropriate and in coordination with the relevant authorities,” Tukutane said.
Witnesses at the concert alleged that the tragedy occurred during a stampede, after individuals without tickets attempted to force their way into the venue, triggering panic among attendees.
Security personnel and emergency responders were overwhelmed as crowds surged, according to several eyewitness accounts.
Popular Nigerian singer Asake also issued a statement expressing his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
“Music has always been my way of sharing love and joy, and it breaks my heart that anyone had to experience such a loss. My thoughts are with everyone grieving, and I pray that Karen rests in peace,” the artist said.
Authorities are yet to release an official report on the incident, as investigations continue into crowd control, security arrangements, and emergency response at the event.
The tragedy has sparked renewed calls for stricter crowd management and safety measures at large entertainment events in Kenya.
