Ashley St. Clair, the mother of Elon Musk’s 14th child, has filed a lawsuit against Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, accusing its chatbot, Grok, of generating and circulating sexually explicit deepfake images of her without consent.
The suit was filed on Thursday, January 15, at the New York State Superior Court. St. Clair alleges that Grok created graphic images depicting her in sexualised scenarios, including portrayals of her both as a child and as an adult.
According to court documents, St. Clair reported the images to X and formally requested their removal. She claims that while Grok initially assured her it would stop generating explicit images using her likeness, the situation later escalated.
St. Clair further alleges that Musk retaliated by demonetising her X account while the chatbot continued producing what she describes as “multitudes” of unlawful and degrading images of her. She says the content caused her severe emotional distress and significant reputational harm.
The lawsuit seeks both compensatory and punitive damages, arguing that xAI failed to adequately prevent the misuse of its technology despite repeated complaints.
The legal action comes amid mounting public criticism over Grok’s ability to generate sexualised images of real women and children. In response to the backlash, xAI recently announced new restrictions, stating that it will geoblock users from generating images of real people in bikinis, underwear, or similar attire through Grok in countries where such content is illegal.
