Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has ordered swift investigations into alleged misconduct by officers attached to Nandi Hills Police Station after disturbing CCTV footage showing police brutality circulated widely on social media.
The viral clip shows about ten armed police officers assaulting several young men who were playing pool in Nandi Hills town, triggering public outrage and renewed scrutiny of police conduct.
In a statement issued on Friday, National Police Service (NPS) spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the Inspector General had personally reviewed the footage and directed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to complete investigations within three days.
“The Inspector General of the National Police Service has personally gained sight of the galling clip and has ordered a comprehensive and swift investigation into the incident,” Nyaga said.
He added that the probe would be conducted professionally and transparently, with collaboration from independent oversight bodies, and warned that any officers found culpable would face disciplinary action.
“Upon conclusion of the investigation, any officer found culpable will be dealt with accordingly,” Nyaga said.
A preliminary assessment by the NPS indicates that the incident occurred on January 10, 2026. The police service said it was deeply concerned by the footage, which appears to show serious violations of conduct by the officers involved.
The incident has once again raised concerns over police brutality and accountability within the service, amid growing public calls for decisive action against rogue officers.
