Kenya Railways Corporation has issued a seven-day demolition notice that could see churches associated with prominent televangelists Pastor James Ng’ang’a and Bishop Margaret Wanjiru pulled down as the State agency moves to reclaim land for its multi-billion-shilling Nairobi Railway City project.
The notice affects properties located along Haile Selassie Avenue, Uhuru Highway and Bunyala Road—an area forming the core footprint of the planned KSh28 billion Railway City redevelopment.
Among the premises marked for demolition is land hosting Neno Evangelism Centre, linked to controversial preacher Pastor James Ng’ang’a, and property occupied by Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s Jesus Is Alive Ministries (JIAM). Also affected are an adjacent stalled construction site and two petrol stations operating within the same zone.
In a notice signed by Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga, the corporation directed what it termed “unauthorised persons” occupying railway land to vacate within seven days.
Kenya Railways warned that once the notice period lapses, it will take full possession of the land to pave the way for the flagship redevelopment project. Any structures remaining after the deadline, the agency said, will be demolished or removed at the owners’ expense.
The Railway City project is expected to significantly reshape Nairobi’s transport hub and commercial landscape as the government accelerates efforts to reclaim and redevelop key parcels of land in the city centre.
