One of the Kenyan women secretly filmed and exposed in a viral video by a Russian national has publicly apologised to President William Ruto, saying she did not consent to the footage being shared online.
A Kenyan woman at the centre of the viral smart-glasses recording scandal has broken her silence, apologising to William Ruto and the nation following the circulation of intimate footage allegedly recorded without her consent.
Speaking during an interview with digital content creator 2mbili in an episode aired on February 16, 2026, the woman — who identified herself as Choice — said she was unaware that the recorded videos would be posted online.
“I Did Not Know They Would Be Posted”
In the emotional interview, Choice said she is currently at a dating stage in her life and never imagined her private moments would become public.
“I just want to say this, Mr President, that I am at a dating stage in my life, and I did not know they would be posted online without my consent. I am sorry this is not who I am,” she said.
Choice described the recording as a violation that occurred during what she termed her vulnerable moments, insisting that she never anticipated trending for such reasons.
“It was so wrong that he recorded me during my vulnerable moments with him and posted me. I am not that type of person. I am very ambitious, and I never saw myself trending in this way,” she added.
Apology to Parents, Friends and Kenyans
Beyond addressing the President, Choice extended her apology to her parents, close friends and the country, acknowledging the disappointment the situation may have caused.
“I am sorry to my parents and true friends, and I am sorry to my country,” she said.
She urged Kenyans not to judge her based solely on the viral clip.
“Please, guys, do not judge me by just a clip. This is not what I do. I am a content creator, and I have a lot of potential, and that is why I know people are disappointed, especially my family and close friends.”
Relationship With the Russian National
Choice admitted that she trusted the man involved, saying she believed in love and was drawn to his charisma.
“I believed in love; I believed in his charisma. He was very charismatic,” she stated.
She revealed that the two had been dating for some time before he travelled to Kenya to meet her. According to Choice, she initially believed he was a streamer and content creator whose work involved filming regularly.
“We were dating for a while until he came to Kenya to meet me. For me, I thought he was just a streamer. Even in the house, I knew he was doing content,” she disclosed.
“He had told me he does streaming and does content creation for a living, and he also travels across the world. That is why I agreed to it because I thought it was just normal content creation.”
Growing Debate Over Consent and Digital Exploitation
The case has sparked national debate about consent, privacy and the misuse of wearable technology, with growing calls for accountability and stronger enforcement of cybercrime laws.
Choice’s public apology and explanation add a personal dimension to the unfolding controversy, as pressure mounts on authorities to address the broader issues of digital exploitation and protection of women online.
