Millie Odhiambo, the Member of Parliament for Suba North, has expressed concern over what she termed as the apparent gullibility of some Kenyan women following a viral scandal involving a foreign national.
Speaking on Sunday, February 15, the legislator reacted to videos circulating online showing a Russian man allegedly filming himself while engaging unsuspecting women in public spaces before inviting them to his private residence.
The man, identified as Yaytseslav Trahov, is seen in the clips approaching random women, striking up conversations, and persuading them to accompany him.
“He Should Be Arrested” – Millie
Millie strongly condemned the alleged breach of privacy, saying the women trusted the man and did not consent to being exposed on social media.
“I wonder what the women implicated in the Russian criminal fiasco are going through with their faces all over social media. I hope the guy is arrested and jailed,” she stated.
According to the MP, the foreigner was out of order for recording and sharing the encounters without clear consent and should be prosecuted.
Challenge to Kenyan Women
While condemning the man’s actions, Millie also challenged Kenyan women to reflect on their own choices. She questioned why some appear to lower their guard when interacting with foreigners whom they may perceive as socially or economically superior.
She observed that many women tend to exercise greater caution when approached by local men but may behave differently when dealing with foreigners.
“If a random Kenyan man were to approach a decent Kenyan woman for sex, would she willingly show up without question, the way the women did?” she posed.
Millie urged women to “decolonize the mind” and reject notions that certain races are superior. She emphasized that personal freedom should never come at the expense of dignity and self-respect.
“Even though we live in a free world, self-respect is still paramount,” she added.
Growing Regional Concerns
The controversy has sparked heated debate online, with many Kenyans questioning how foreigners treat local women and whether adequate precautions are being taken, especially amid growing fears over femicide.
Some social media users asked why the women agreed to visit the man’s residence, while others argued that the encounters may have been consensual and that no harm occurred.
Reports have further indicated that the same individual allegedly engaged in similar behavior in Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, and Ghana, intensifying calls for investigation.
As the debate rages on, the incident has reignited conversations around privacy, consent, digital ethics, and the perception of foreigners within African societies.
