At least 23 people have died after devastating floods swept through Nairobi following heavy overnight rainfall, causing widespread destruction and disruption across the capital.
The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the fatalities as emergency response teams continued rescue and recovery operations in several flood-affected areas.
Authorities said the intense downpour caused rivers to overflow and drainage systems to burst, leaving homes submerged, roads impassable, and residents displaced.
Several Estates Worst Hit
Some of the hardest-hit neighbourhoods include Mukuru, Kibra, Mathare, Huruma, South B, South C, Pipeline, Roysambu, Kahawa West, Githurai, and parts of Westlands.
In these areas, homes were flooded, residents were forced to evacuate, and businesses suffered significant losses as water levels rose rapidly overnight.
Emergency Response Underway
Rescue teams drawn from security agencies and disaster response units have been deployed to assist affected residents, recover bodies, and help clear flooded roads.
Authorities have urged residents living in flood-prone areas to move to safer ground and avoid attempting to cross swollen rivers or flooded roads.
The flooding has also caused major traffic disruptions across the city, with several roads temporarily closed as emergency teams work to restore normalcy.
