A Kenya Defence Forces Rapid Response Unit was deployed on Friday night to assist in managing flooding and traffic disruptions across Nairobi following heavy rains.
The team responded to several flood-affected areas, including the Kariokor–Ring Road Roundabout, where rising water levels from the Nairobi River had disrupted traffic flow.
According to officials, the unit conducted traffic control operations and facilitated the towing of vehicles that had stalled in the floodwaters, helping restore normal movement along the busy junction.
The rapid response team also established traffic control at the Mbagathi Roundabout, another location significantly affected by the flooding.
Heavy Rains Submerge Roads
The deployment followed heavy rainfall that hit Nairobi on the evening of Friday, March 6, 2026. The downpour left several roads submerged in ankle-to-knee-deep water, particularly in low-lying sections of the city.
Among the worst-hit areas were sections of Mombasa Road, South C, Parklands, and Mbagathi Way.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution while driving through flooded roads as emergency teams continue monitoring the situation and assisting affected motorists.
