The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has begun hand-delivering demolition notices to operators and owners of illegal structures erected on road reserves along Thika Superhighway.
According to the authority, the notices were served to traders operating in Delview, Kihunguro, and Allsops areas, where earlier eviction notices had already expired.
KeNHA said the hand-delivery exercise is intended to ensure that all affected traders are fully aware of the planned demolitions if they fail to vacate the road reserve within the stipulated timeframe.
The move comes just days after hundreds of traders in Roysambu woke up to demolished stalls following an overnight operation carried out after the expiry of an earlier notice ordering them to leave the road reserve.
A similar demolition exercise has also been conducted in the Githurai area as authorities intensify efforts to reclaim public land along the busy highway corridor.
KeNHA maintains that the demolitions are necessary to pave the way for the construction of designated bus bays. The project aims to create safer and more organized spaces for passenger pick-up and drop-off while helping to ease traffic congestion along Thika Superhighway.
The authority has urged traders operating on road reserves to comply with the directives to avoid further losses as enforcement operations continue.
