A majority of members of the Football Kenya Federation National Executive Committee (NEC) have passed a resolution calling for top federation officials to step aside over the alleged KSh42 million CHAN funds scandal.
NEC Resolution
Nine out of fourteen NEC members signed the resolution directing FKF President Hussein Rashid Mohammed, NEC member Abdullahi Yussuf Ibrahim, and Acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru to temporarily vacate office.
The move is intended to pave the way for investigations into alleged financial impropriety and procurement irregularities.
Acting Leadership Proposed
The resolution proposes that FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga takes over as acting president pending the outcome of a forensic audit and independent investigations.
Calls to Safeguard Funds
NEC members further resolved that all FKF bank accounts linked to the implicated officials be frozen to safeguard public funds during the investigation period.
Legal Basis
The resolution cites Article 40 of the FKF Constitution, noting that a written resolution supported by a majority of NEC members holds the same authority as decisions made in a formal meeting.
Attendance and Support
The decision followed a meeting attended by nine NEC members. Three members—Charles Njagi, Ahmedqadar Mohammed Dabar, and Kenneth Rungu—did not attend.
No Official Response Yet
As of now, FKF has not issued an official response regarding the resolution.
Growing Pressure
The development adds pressure on the federation’s leadership amid ongoing scrutiny over financial management, especially as Kenya prepares for major continental football events.
The outcome of the investigations is expected to have significant implications for governance and accountability within Kenyan football.
