Stanley Kimure, an aide to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Director for Political Affairs, has been charged at the Kajiado Law Courts.
Charges and Court Appearance
Kimure faces charges of possession of narcotics and ammunition following an incident in which he was allegedly abducted in Kiambu County.
He appeared before Chief Magistrate Roselyne Oganyo, who granted him a bond of KSh150,000 with a surety of a similar amount.
Plea Yet to Be Taken
The court directed that preliminary objections raised by the defence be heard on April 15, with Kimure yet to take plea.
He is expected to remain at Kajiado Police Station as arrangements for his bond continue.
Defence Claims Political Motive
Kimure’s legal team, led by Ndegwa Njiru, strongly opposed the charges, terming the arrest politically motivated.
They argued that the case should have been handled in the jurisdiction where the arrest allegedly took place, rather than transferring him to Kajiado.
Allegations of Detention
The defence further claimed that Kimure was held incommunicado at Isinya Police Station before being presented in court late on Thursday.
Abduction Claims
Reports indicate that at the time of the alleged abduction, Kimure was in the company of Mark Mwenje, who is said to have reported the incident.
Case to Proceed
The matter is set to continue in court as legal arguments unfold over the circumstances of his arrest and the validity of the charges.
