National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has alleged that he once received KSh5 million from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, raising questions about the source and intent of the money.
Allegations Raised in Interview
Speaking during an appearance on the Obinna Show Live, Ichung’wah claimed the cash was delivered to him while Gachagua was still serving as Deputy President.
According to him, the claims emerged amid circulating allegations that Gachagua and former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu were linked to the misappropriation of funds meant for children’s feeding programmes—claims he said were dismissed as propaganda.
Account of the Cash Delivery
Ichung’wah alleged that later the same day he raised the concerns, he received a call from an individual identified as Ngotho, said to be a handler linked to Gachagua.
He claimed they met at a fuel station where he was handed a backpack containing KSh5 million in cash.
Phone Call From Gachagua
The Majority Leader further alleged that Gachagua later called him, explaining that the money was meant to support him in handling financial pressures associated with his role, including frequent fundraising (harambees).
Ichung’wah said he even used part of the funds—KSh1 million—for a harambee shortly after receiving the cash.
Questions Over Source of Funds
He now claims he suspects the money could have originated from misappropriated public resources or may have been intended to influence him.
No Response Yet
As of the time of publication, Rigathi Gachagua had not publicly responded to the allegations.
