Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has announced the completion of the Ngong–Suswa Highway, terming it a major boost to regional connectivity and economic growth.
A New Alternative Route
Speaking on Monday, Omollo said the approximately 70-kilometre tarmac road is now fully operational, offering motorists a reliable alternative to the often congested Nairobi–Mai Mahiu Road along the escarpment.
The new highway provides a more direct link between Ngong Town and Suswa, significantly reducing travel time for motorists heading to western Kenya.
Boost to Regional Mobility
The road is expected to ease movement for travellers connecting to counties such as Narok County, Bomet County, and Kisii County, improving efficiency along a key transport corridor.
Omollo described the project as a “game changer,” noting that it enhances accessibility while decongesting existing routes.
Economic Opportunities
Beyond transport, the highway is also opening up economic opportunities, particularly in Kajiado County.
The PS said farmers and livestock traders in the region now have quicker and more dependable access to markets in Nairobi, enabling them to move produce and livestock more efficiently and at lower cost.
Infrastructure Impact
The completion of the Ngong–Suswa Highway is expected to support trade, ease logistics, and drive development along the corridor, reinforcing the government’s push to improve infrastructure and connectivity across the country.
