Francis Atwoli has criticised former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of fuelling division and urging him to retire from active politics.
Remarks at Burial Ceremony
Speaking during the burial of Dorothy Baya Mweri, the mother of Kilifi North MP Owen Baya, Atwoli claimed that Uhuru’s recent statements were contributing to rising tensions among Kenyans.
He argued that the former Head of State was not playing a constructive role in shaping opposition politics.
Criticism of Opposition Role
Atwoli further stated that Uhuru was not helping efforts to build a united opposition or craft a clear election roadmap ahead of the next polls.
“There is no opposition in Kenya at the moment,” Atwoli said, adding that Uhuru should stop what he termed as incitement along tribal lines.
Backs Ruto’s Re-election
The outspoken trade unionist also expressed confidence that President William Ruto would secure a second term with a landslide victory.
In his remarks, Atwoli criticised Uhuru’s past political record, claiming he had failed to influence previous election outcomes despite holding office.
Political Tensions Persist
The comments highlight ongoing political tensions as leaders position themselves ahead of future elections, with divisions continuing to emerge within both government and opposition circles.
