Two suspects have been arrested in Makindu, Makueni County following a late-night intelligence-led operation that uncovered an alleged illegal donkey slaughtering syndicate.

Night Raid Uncovers Slaughter Site

According to area chief Jackson Kimende, the operation was conducted at around 12:30am in Kamboo sub-location, where officers raided a forest site.

During the operation, authorities discovered that at least 20 donkeys had already been slaughtered.

Suspects Flee Scene

Kimende said several individuals believed to be part of the syndicate fled into the forest upon noticing the officers.

However, two suspects were arrested at the scene and are currently in custody as investigations continue.

Vehicle Intercepted

A vehicle suspected to have been used to transport the meat was also intercepted while being loaded.

The driver, however, managed to escape and remains at large.

Ongoing Investigations

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects as they intensify investigations into the illegal operation.

The incident raises renewed concerns over illicit donkey slaughtering, which has been linked to illegal meat trade and the export of donkey products.
