Meshack Ojwang’ has accused Johnson Sakaja of failing to fulfil promises made to the family following the death of his son, Albert Ojwang’.
Albert, a teacher, died while in custody at Central Police Station in June 2025, an incident that sparked public outrage and demands for accountability.
According to Meshack Ojwang’, the family met Governor Sakaja at City Hall on June 11, 2025, just days after Albert’s death, where the governor publicly pledged support for the bereaved family.
Among the commitments allegedly made by Sakaja were securing employment for Albert’s widow at City Hall, fully sponsoring the education of Albert’s now four-year-old son, and clearing outstanding college fees for the widow, who was pursuing studies in community health.
The governor also reportedly promised to purchase land for the family and construct rental units to provide them with a sustainable source of monthly income after losing their breadwinner.
However, Mr Ojwang’ now claims none of the pledges have been honoured.
“The governor has not talked to us on the issues he promised. None of those things he said have been done either,” he said.
He further stated that the family believed the promises would be implemented after they were publicly announced during the meeting at City Hall.
“When he called us to his office in Nairobi and paraded us before the media and made the promises, we thought he was going to fulfil them,” he added.
The remarks are likely to renew scrutiny over public pledges made by leaders to grieving families and whether such commitments are eventually implemented.
