Kakamega County, Kenya — May 21, 2026, 2:20 PM: Kakamega based Henry Shitanda has accused a woman identified as Doreen Atsianji of attempting to extort money from him using what he claims is a fabricated pregnancy and delivery story.
The matter is now being handled through legal channels after Shitanda sought verification from a hospital regarding the woman’s claims.
The allegations have drawn public attention online and within political circles, particularly as the former Bunge La Mwananchi president prepares for political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
Lawyer Writes to Kisumu Specialists Hospital
According to reports, Shitanda’s lawyer formally wrote to Kisumu Specialists Hospital seeking confirmation on whether Atsianji had indeed been admitted to the facility.
The communication reportedly followed claims by the woman that she had been hospitalised between May 9 and May 11 due to early labour pains before later delivering a baby.
She allegedly sent Shitanda photographs of a newborn child and requested Ksh 50,893, claiming the funds were needed to settle an outstanding hospital bill.
Shitanda Claims Alleged Extortion Attempt
However, Shitanda’s legal team dismissed the claims as suspicious and potentially fraudulent.
“Our client has strong reasons to believe that these claims are fraudulent and constitute an attempt at extortion or blackmail,” part of the lawyer’s letter reportedly stated.
The politician’s team is now seeking official hospital records and verification to establish the authenticity of the claims.
Matter Expected to Proceed Through Legal Channels
The dispute is expected to proceed through legal processes as investigators and lawyers continue examining the matter.
