Mwalimu Rachel Questions Families Having More Children Amid Financial Struggles

Education advocate and media personality Mwalimu Rachel has sparked debate online after questioning why some families continue having more children despite facing serious financial challenges.

Rachel made the remarks while reacting to a case involving a man who recently appealed for public assistance to construct a toilet at his home while simultaneously celebrating the birth of another child.

Speaking on the issue, Mwalimu Rachel urged parents, particularly women, to make deliberate and responsible decisions regarding family planning, arguing that bringing children into financially unstable households can worsen existing hardships.

“Why are we bringing more children into households that are not economically empowered?” she posed.

Her comments have since generated mixed reactions among Kenyans on social media, with some supporting her stance and others arguing that family size remains a personal choice influenced by cultural, religious and social factors.

Supporters of Rachel’s views noted that raising children requires significant financial resources, especially at a time when many households are struggling with the high cost of living, unemployment and rising expenses.

Others, however, defended larger families, insisting that economic challenges should not dictate family decisions and that children are a blessing regardless of financial circumstances.

The debate has also reignited conversations around family planning, responsible parenthood and the economic realities facing many Kenyan families.

Mwalimu Rachel, who is widely known for her educational content and parenting advice, has frequently spoken about the importance of creating stable environments for children to thrive both academically and socially.

As discussions continue online, her remarks have once again highlighted the delicate balance between personal family choices and the financial responsibilities that come with raising children.
