The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations after four armed suspects riding motorcycles stormed a restaurant in Westlands, Nairobi, robbing customers before firing gunshots and fleeing the scene.
The robbery occurred on Saturday night along General Mathenge Road, where the four suspects, travelling on two motorcycles, reportedly entered the restaurant and stole valuables from customers.
Suspects Fired Gunshots Before Escaping
According to investigators, the suspects fired two rounds into the air before escaping towards the Parklands area.
Although no injuries were reported, the gunfire caused panic among customers and staff as the attackers fled.
Forensic and CCTV Analysis Underway
Police officers recovered a spent 9mm cartridge at the scene, which has been submitted for forensic examination.
The DCI said detectives have already recorded statements from several victims, with additional witnesses expected to provide their accounts as investigations continue.
Investigators from the Imaging and Acoustic Section are also retrieving and analysing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to trace the suspects’ movements before and after the robbery.
Crime scene investigators have submitted other exhibits recovered from the scene for forensic analysis in the hope of generating leads that could help identify those responsible.
The DCI said the investigation is being driven by intelligence gathering and forensic evidence as detectives work to identify, apprehend and prosecute the suspects.
“Intelligence and forensics-led investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying, apprehending, and arraigning the suspects before the courts,” the DCI said.
