A prison warden has been arrested in Wajir County after his three-year-old son died from suspected fatal injuries following an alleged domestic violence incident.

According to police, the child’s mother reported that her husband allegedly assaulted her during a domestic dispute, forcing her to flee to a neighbour’s house for safety.

She later returned to the family home accompanied by neighbours, where they found the three-year-old boy unconscious and bleeding from the mouth and nose.

The child was rushed to Wajir County Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said he had visible injuries on the forehead believed to have been inflicted using a blunt object.

The suspect, a 31-year-old prison warden attached to Wajir GK Prison, was initially apprehended by members of the public before being re-arrested by police.

He is currently being held at Wajir Police Station as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

The body of the deceased has been moved to the Wajir County Referral Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to establish the exact cause of death.

Police have launched investigations into the incident as the suspect remains in custody pending further action.
