President William Ruto held a meeting with the British High Commissioner to Kenya, Neil Wigan, at State House in preparation for the upcoming State Visit by King Charles III.

During the meeting, President Ruto expressed Kenya’s deep appreciation for being chosen as the destination for King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s first visit to a Commonwealth nation.

President Ruto highlighted the significance of this visit, emphasizing the strength of the bilateral relations and the mutually beneficial partnership between Kenya and the United Kingdom. He stated, “Kenya is honored that King Charles III and Queen Camilla have chosen our country for their first visit to a Commonwealth nation. This choice is a testament to the depth of our relations and the mutually beneficial nature of our partnership. The visit is a significant opportunity to enhance our collaboration in various areas of shared interest.”

The meeting was also attended by Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla are scheduled to embark on an official state visit to Kenya from October 31 to November 3, 2023. The visit will include a series of activities over the four days they will spend in the country.

Their Majesties will receive a ceremonial welcome at State House in Nairobi upon their arrival. Subsequently, they will participate in separate bilateral meetings, with the King meeting President Ruto and the Queen meeting First Lady Rachel Ruto.

The state visit will culminate in a State Banquet hosted by President Ruto at State House, Nairobi. The program during their stay in Kenya will underscore the collaborative efforts between Kenya and the United Kingdom, focusing on areas such as promoting mutual prosperity, addressing climate change, facilitating youth opportunities and employment, advancing sustainable development, and contributing to regional stability and security.

The official statement released on October 11 outlines their visit itinerary, which includes visits to Nairobi County, Mombasa County, and the surrounding areas.
