President William Ruto has unveiled the key to his enduring connection with First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto that he wants married couples to adhere to.
Speaking at the traditional wedding ceremony of Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi and Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina this past weekend, the commander in chief emphasized that marriage is no simple journey.
The head of state shared insights into his 32-year marriage with Mama Rachel, acknowledging the challenges of keeping a marriage strong.
He cautioned the newly wed lawmakers from reading each other’s phone messages, highlighting the potential discovery of unfriendly SMSs.
“I have been with Rachel for 32 years, and I have really struggled. Just like the bishop has said, marriage is difficult, and you must hold onto it. Don’t listen to rumors, don’t touch someone’s phone. Because there are a lot of messages, and some are sent by people out to break other people’s marriages.”
The President added that married couples should also avoid social media as it has the potential to drive someone to madness.
“Leave alone your husband’s phone, and husbands should equally avoid their wife’s phones. A phone is like social media; it can make you go mad,” he added.
