Law enforcement authorities have initiated a manhunt for a businessperson accused of smuggling prohibited items valued at Ksh17 million through the Mombasa Port.
The entrepreneur reportedly disappeared after the items, suspected to be insecticides, were confiscated by officials from the Kenya Pest Control Products Board (PCPB).
PCPB Chairman Fredrick Muchiri revealed that the 22-tonne cargo container had originated from China.
Upon inspection by PCPB officials, it was determined that the products posed a threat to both humans and the environment.
“These are toxic substances, and they are meant to kill. They have no indications, and it has not been verified. Nobody knows what it is; we are only finding them here,” Muchiri added.
Subsequently, the cargo has been relocated to the port storage facility as investigations continue.
