Two Nigerian nationals implicated in the brutal murder and dismemberment of 20-year-old Rita Waeni will remain in custody for eight days as detectives intensify their investigations into the tragic murder.
The two Nigerians identified as William Ovie Opia and JohnBull Asibor, were presented before the Chief Magistrate at Makadara Law Courts on Monday, January 22, a week after the murder occurred in a rented AirBnB in Roysambu.
However, the appearance of the two Nigerian suspects differs from the individual captured on CCTV collecting keys to the Air BnB where the murder transpired.
A Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer stationed at Kasarani police station disclosed that the duo were arrested at a rented flat in Ndenderu, Kiambu county.
During the arrest, several crude items were seized, including a hatchet and a butcher knife. The police also recovered six mobile phones and three laptop computers from the apartment.
Among the recovered items were an assortment of SIM cards from Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom, as well as a Kenyan identity card registered under the name Omar Mwamkwaju Juma.
Notably, the suspects reside near the dam where a human head, suspected to be Waeni’s was discovered.
Further investigations revealed that both suspects have been residing in Kenya illegally. Opia, one of the suspects, was found with an expired passport, while Asibor claimed to have lost his passport the previous year.
