Two Nigerians who were arrested in connection with the tragic killing of university student Rita Waeni have been released.
William Ovie Opia and Johnbull Asbour were set free after a period of detention to allow the police to complete their investigations.
The court, upon releasing them, stipulated that they must appear before investigators once a week as part of their conditions.
The prosecution confirmed that investigations into the case are still ongoing.
Initially, on January 31, the court had granted the police a 21-day period to detain William Ovie Opia and Johnbull Asbor to collect DNA samples for comparison with those of the deceased. Additionally, the police had requested more time to analyze the suspects’ sim cards, laptops, and phones.
During the recent court session, Magistrate Mwangi was informed that investigations have been completed, with only the DNA test pending.
The two individuals, represented by their lawyer Victor Obuli, requested the court’s release and also sought the return of their phones.
