Great news for commuters! Bus fares are expected to decrease by as much as 10 percent nationwide, according to the Matatu Owners Association (MOA). This move aims to ease the burden on Kenyans following recent fuel price reductions.
MOA chairperson, Albert Karakacha, announced the fare reduction as a way of giving back to Kenyans.
He emphasized the importance of passengers, stating, “We can’t do business without them.” The association is currently consulting with members across the country to implement the fare cuts.
Passengers can expect to see a decrease of Sh10 to Sh20 on fares that previously cost Sh100. The MOA plans to monitor the situation through their grassroots network to ensure drivers and owners adhere to the lower prices.
While acknowledging the government’s positive step in lowering fuel prices, Karakacha urged them to address the cost of spare parts and tires. He highlighted the continuing high prices despite the falling dollar.
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) recently announced the biggest fuel price drop yet. Here’s a breakdown of the reductions:
- Super Petrol: Sh5.31 per liter
- Diesel: Sh10 per liter
- Kerosene: Sh18.68 per liter
The new prices will be in effect for a month, starting from April 14th until May 14th, 2024.
