University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor Stephen Kiama has rejected a directive instructing him to go on leave.
In a statement released Monday morning, the Vice-Chancellor urged university staff and students to disregard the directive, indicating that he remains in his position.
“This matter has garnered significant attention and has the potential to cause concern among both staff and students. I urge all staff and students to disregard the communication.”
The University of Nairobi council announced on Friday that VC Kiama had been placed on compulsory leave, following a council meeting held on the same day.
Council Chairperson Amukova Anangwe stated that the council had appointed Prof. Ayub Njoroge Gitau as the acting Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Ayub Njoroge Gitau, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, has been appointed to act as the Vice-Chancellor effective Friday, April 19, 2024, according to the council’s announcement.
