The Kenyan government has dispatched a team to probe the helicopter crash that claimed the life of military chief Gen Francis Ogolla and nine others.
The cause of the crash remains unclear.
Gen Ogolla was one of 12 occupants aboard the military aircraft, which went down on Thursday afternoon shortly after takeoff in the northwest region of the country.
The deceased were transported to Nairobi, while the two survivors are receiving medical treatment in a hospital.
According to his family, the four-star general will be laid to rest on Sunday at his residence in western Siaya county.
President William Ruto declared three days of national mourning, expressing profound sorrow for the nation.
Gen Ogolla, appointed as Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces in April of the previous year, was hailed by Mr Ruto as a brave officer who lost his life in service.
“Our nation mourns the loss of one of its bravest generals, courageous officers, and service personnel,” Mr Ruto conveyed to the nation.
Gen Ogolla commenced his service in the Kenya Defence Forces on April 24, 1984, as per the Kenyan defense ministry’s website. He was set to mark 40 years in the military the following week.
