In a distressing incident, a 14-year-old minor was discovered locked inside their rental house for two days in Nyahururu town’s Core-Site Estate, allegedly by their heartless landlord.
Residents reported that the girl had been living alone since her mother was admitted to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital the previous week on Sunday, where she had gone to deliver.
According to accounts from neighbors, the landlord welded the door shut, effectively trapping the girl inside on Tuesday. The minor recounted that she initially believed the landlord was working on another house until she tried to leave and realized it was their home.
“I knew it was our door when I tried opening it to get out, but I couldn’t,” the little girl shared with philanthropist Onyie Wuod Adhiambo.
Unable to free herself, the girl informed her mother, who, unable to assist from the hospital, advised her to wait until her return.
The girl, who was not attending school at the time due to financial constraints, was supposed to start Form 1 this year.
Neighbors have taken the initiative to provide food for the girl through a window in the house, as she currently lacks any support. This act of community care highlights the solidarity and compassion of the local residents in the face of adversity.
