In a tragic turn of events, a man’s attempt to detain his brother in a hospital ended in both their deaths. Jimnah Mbuthia, 35, and his younger brother, Gibson Githaiga, drowned in a water-filled quarry near the hospital in Mirema, Nairobi.

Mbuthia had been admitted to Life Bridge Hospital on Saturday for mental health issues, and his brother was assigned to stay with him. However, Mbuthia managed to sneak out of his ward, prompting Githaiga to chase after him.

Unaware of the dangers ahead, they both ran into a deep quarry filled with water and drowned. Police, with the help of local residents, retrieved their bodies, which were then taken to the mortuary for autopsy.

In another incident, Elvis Mutuku, 27, was crushed to death while scavenging for metal rods from a concrete wall near the Shell petrol station in Sabaki, Athi River. Police reported that Mutuku was using a hacksaw to cut steel rods when the wall collapsed on him. His body was found alongside the tools he was using.

Elsewhere, in the Mathare slums, a man died at a chemist while seeking help for severe bleeding. He had walked into the facility with stab wounds on his throat before collapsing and dying. Police suspect he was attacked by an unknown assailant outside his rented apartment and rushed to the chemist for aid. The body has been moved to the mortuary pending further investigation.

In Kabati, Murang’a County, a 78-year-old man died in a house fire. The blaze broke out in the residence of Pius Kamau Gitau, who lived alone. Police suspect a candle found at the scene may have caused the fire. Gitau was found in his bedroom and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

These incidents highlight a series of unfortunate events leading to loss of life, prompting ongoing investigations by local authorities.
