A four-storey building under construction has collapsed in the Itierio area of Kisii County, leaving at least five people dead and several others trapped under the rubble.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, April 6, near Itierio Mixed Primary School in Suneka. The building came crashing down during the day, reportedly falling onto adjacent homes and businesses, worsening the scale of destruction.

Emergency response teams from Kisii County, including the police, firefighters, and other rescue personnel, are on site conducting search and rescue operations.

Excavators have been deployed to help clear the debris as they race against time to find survivors. Families of workers and nearby residents have gathered at the scene, anxiously waiting for news about their loved ones.

The exact cause of the collapse is yet to be determined. Authorities have confirmed that an official investigation will be launched immediately to establish what went wrong.
