Tensions flared at Egerton University late Monday night after students went on a rampage following a violent attack on a female student inside one of the hostels.

According to witnesses, a machete-wielding assailant reportedly snuck into the school compound under unclear circumstances and launched an attack on the student.

The victim sustained serious panga cuts to her head and hands, and was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. Her condition remains undisclosed.

The motive behind the brutal assault remains unknown, and the identity of the attacker has yet to be confirmed.

As of Tuesday morning, the university administration had not issued an official statement regarding the incident, further fueling unrest and concern among students.
