A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier has surrendered to military police after the tragic death of his girlfriend in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
The soldier, stationed at Kahawa Garrison Defence Forces Constabulary, had spent time with his 24-year-old girlfriend at a local apartment when the incident occurred.
Around 11 pm, the woman became unconscious and began having difficulty breathing. The soldier sought help, and a caretaker responded. They then asked another tenant for assistance to transport the woman to St Paul’s Hospital Kitengela, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
However, police investigations suggest the woman likely passed away before reaching the hospital. When hospital staff instructed the soldier and the driver to report the incident to the authorities, the soldier fled, jumping over the hospital gate. He later went to his barracks and reported the incident to military police.
Preliminary investigations revealed there were no visible injuries on the woman’s body. The body has been transferred to Shalom Mortuary, and an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. Kitengela’s DCI Officer Joseph Indege indicated that the soldier was cooperating with the investigation and that the cause of death could be related to natural causes, such as a heart attack, though this has yet to be confirmed.
