A 43-year-old Kenyan woman has been arrested at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for allegedly smuggling 1.7 kilograms of cocaine valued between Ksh225 million and Ksh300 million .
Indian Customs officials, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted the suspect, identified as Emily Kannin Rodha, upon her arrival from Nairobi via Doha. A search of her baggage led to the discovery of four packets containing a powdery substance, which tested positive for narcotics.
Authorities revealed that the drugs were concealed inside her trolley bag. Following questioning, she was detained under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for smuggling commercial quantities of illegal substances.
During interrogation, she admitted that another woman handed over consignment to her at Nairobi and promised to pay her 100,000 Kenyan Shilling for successful delivery of the contraband to her associate in Delhi.
Customs officials are also checking her travel history to find whether she smuggled narcotics or any other banned or restricted items to India in the past.
The investigators are also trying to find out details of her other associates involved in the smuggling racket.
