Several pedestrians were arrested on Monday morning during a traffic enforcement operation at the Mutindwa footbridge along the Buruburu Interchange in Nairobi.

The operation, conducted jointly by officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and officers from the National Police Service, targeted pedestrians who were crossing the busy highway instead of using the designated footbridge.

According to the enforcement team, those arrested were found violating traffic regulations by failing to use the footbridge, despite its availability.

The operation was still underway as officers remained stationed at the interchange to monitor compliance and prevent unsafe road crossings.

Authorities said the crackdown forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, reduce pedestrian-related accidents and encourage compliance with traffic laws.

They warned that pedestrians who ignore designated crossing points and continue crossing the road illegally risk arrest and possible prosecution as enforcement continues.

Road users have been urged to use footbridges and other designated crossing points to safeguard their safety and avoid falling foul of the law.
