The man suspected of murdering prison warder Abigael Chepkemoi before allegedly sharing images of the crime in a work WhatsApp group has been found dead in a ravine in Poror Forest, Bomet County.
The deceased, identified as Mwalimu Waley, was discovered on Saturday, a day after Chepkemoi was found murdered at her home in Kinyelwet Village, Kipsonoi Ward, Sotik Sub-County.
Chepkemoi, who was attached to Murang’a GK Prison, was found dead at her residence on Thursday, prompting detectives to launch a murder investigation.
Police officers who visited the scene said preliminary findings indicated that the prison officer had been killed, with investigators immediately treating the incident as murder.
According to detectives, early investigations pointed to a suspected love triangle as one of the possible motives behind the killing.
Waley, who was reportedly in a relationship with Chepkemoi, became the prime suspect and had been sought by police following the discovery of her body.
Authorities had also been investigating allegations that images believed to have been taken after the killing were shared in a work WhatsApp group.
His body was later found in a ravine in Poror Forest under circumstances that remain unclear.
Police have since opened a separate investigation into Waley’s death as detectives work to establish how he died and whether his death is directly linked to the murder of Chepkemoi.
Investigations into both deaths are ongoing.
