A businessman has lost Sh850,000 after two armed men riding a motorcycle intercepted his vehicle and robbed him at gunpoint in a daring daylight attack along the Eastern Bypass near Fun City Hotel in Nairobi.

The victim, identified as Alex Munyiri, had withdrawn Sh250,000 from an I&M Bank branch in Utawala, opposite the Administration Police Training School, at around 8:30 a.m. He later combined the cash with another Sh600,000 that he already had in a white bag inside his Toyota Passo.

According to police, as Munyiri drove along the Eastern Bypass, his vehicle was intercepted by two men armed with pistols who were riding a motorcycle.

The suspects allegedly threatened him at gunpoint before stealing the entire Sh850,000 and fleeing the scene before police officers could respond.

Detectives have since launched investigations into the robbery and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area while pursuing leads that could help identify and arrest the suspects.

Police said the case remains pending under investigation (P.U.I.) as efforts to track down the attackers continue.

The incident has renewed concerns over the rising number of armed robberies targeting motorists along Nairobi’s major highways, with authorities urging members of the public to exercise caution and avoid carrying large sums of cash in their vehicles whenever possible.
