Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has received a significant political boost after Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata officially joined the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

Kang’ata’s move comes just a week after he announced his departure from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and aligned himself with the Linda Mwananchi movement led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Gachagua welcomed the Murang’a governor into DCP during a meeting at his Wamunyoro residence, describing the development as another milestone in the party’s rapid growth.

Taking to his social media platforms, the former Deputy President expressed his excitement over Kang’ata’s decision.

“Welcome home, Governor Irungu Kang’ata, where you belong. Today at Wamunyoro Residence, I was pleased to receive my younger brother, Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Governor of Murang’a County, as a member of our party, DCP, the party of the moment and the future,” Gachagua said.

The latest defection comes shortly after DCP celebrated a major victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, a result that the party has cited as evidence of its growing national influence.

Gachagua said DCP is steadily expanding its political footprint across the country, noting that the party now has elected representatives at both the national and county levels.

“We now have a Member of the National Assembly and three Members of the County Assemblies from across the Country, reflecting the face of Kenya. As we prepare for the next General Election, we are determined to be the majority party in both Houses and the majority across County Assemblies.”

The former Deputy President maintained that DCP is positioning itself as a formidable political force ahead of the 2027 General Election, with plans to strengthen its presence nationwide.
