Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has been summoned to the Kiambu Police Station over allegations of inciting crowds during President William Ruto’s recent tour of the Mt Kenya region.
The outspoken MP, who is closely allied with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, is being blamed by some quarters for the hostile reception President Ruto received in parts of Kiambu County. During the Friday visit, chants of “Ruto must go” echoed among sections of the crowd, which authorities now link to Wamuchomba’s alleged negative mobilisation.
It is reported that the legislator held a parallel meeting on the same day, which law enforcement claims sparked demonstrations and fuelled anti-government sentiments in the area.
Confirming the summons on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Wamuchomba did not hold back in her response. She said the Kiambu County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) reached out via phone to summon her, attributing the move to the public’s frustration with failed government promises.
“The CCIO Kiambu has through a telephone called and sermoned me; because the great people of Githunguri refused to be lured by fake promises and projects that never materialised. Arrests you can do, but that will not change the facts! No more lies! You promised, deliver!” she wrote.
Wamuchomba has been an open critic of President Ruto’s administration and has often voiced her discontent with what she terms as unfulfilled pledges and mismanagement..
