Kenyan singer Bahati has opened up about a painful chapter in his personal life, revealing that his sister once tried to sabotage his relationship with his now-wife, Diana Marua, in the early stages of their romance.
Speaking during an interview on the Mic Cheque Podcast, the Barua hitmaker claimed that his sister not only stole money from him but went as far as involving a fake prophet in an attempt to pin the theft on Diana.
According to Bahati, he had left a significant amount of money in a drawer in his bedroom before traveling with Diana to a performance in Narok. Upon their return, he discovered the money was missing.
“I left the money in the house, in the bedroom drawer, then left with Diana for a show in Narok. When we came back the next morning, the money was gone. I knew who had taken it,” he recalled.
To his surprise, a self-proclaimed prophet later approached him with a message supposedly from God, claiming that Diana was a thief and had stolen his money. Bahati quickly became suspicious.
“My sister sent a fake prophet to tell me I was dating a thief. That Diana had stolen the money. But I knew that wasn’t true. If I hadn’t left with Diana, I might have believed the lie,” he explained.
Bahati also shared that his strong spiritual discernment helped him uncover the truth and avoid a potential breakup with Diana. He admitted that the betrayal left him deeply hurt and that he still struggles to find closure.
“She even claimed, ‘God showed me you’re living with a thief.’ That hurt me. I still haven’t made peace with it,” he said.
Despite the emotional pain and lack of an apology, Bahati said he continues to support his sister financially whenever she is in need.
“I still send her money when she asks. But it’s hard because she’s never owned up to what she did,” he added.
