A 26-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, May 4, after he was found carrying a snake in a bag without proper documentation at a roadblock in Mayenje, Busia County.

Fanish Ramsey Maloba, a resident of Matayos, was intercepted by police while crossing the Malenya border point from Uganda. Officers became suspicious during a routine check and discovered a two-meter-long black snake concealed in his bag.

The unusual find caused a brief disruption to business activities at the busy border crossing as authorities worked to secure the animal.

According to police, Maloba claimed he had traveled to Uganda to receive prayers to cast out demons from his life. During the spiritual session, he said, the snake appeared. He was reportedly transporting it to his church—Apostle Ministry Church in Matayos—for further prayers.

Police notified officials from the Kenya Wildlife Service, who responded to the scene and took custody of the snake.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
