Nairobi- June 26, 2025: A UK tourist who was stranded in Nairobi after his passport was stolen during recent protests has finally had it returned, thanks to the viral efforts of Kenyan content creator and self-styled “Minister of Foreign Affairs,” Thithad.
In a heartwarming video shared online, Thithad revealed that the passport belonging to Cliff Hirneisen had been dropped off anonymously at the caretaker’s office of his residence in Nairobi.
“The passport has been returned. It was left at the caretaker’s office. Thank you, Kenyans,” Thithad said as he held up the recovered document.
Stranded and Alone in Nairobi
Cliff, who had reportedly lost all his documents and money during the anti-police protests in Nairobi, was first spotted in a now-viral video looking distressed, sipping a drink on the street, and appearing hopeless.
With no local support network, he turned to social media for help.
Luckily, Thithad, known for his humorous and humanitarian content, came to his rescue. He offered Cliff shelter in his modest bedsitter apartment, provided food, and started posting updates online to mobilize assistance for the stranded foreigner.
“If you’re the one who stole this man’s passport, know that we’re with him here. He’s lost and doesn’t even know where his next meal will come from,” Thithad said in an earlier video appeal.
Kenyans Rally Behind Cliff
The story sparked widespread sympathy online, with Kenyans praising Thithad’s kindness and patriotism. Many offered donations to help Cliff find his way back home, while others helped amplify the campaign to recover his documents.
In a twist of good fortune, the passport was quietly returned within days of the campaign going viral. The identity of the individual who returned it remains unknown.
