Nairobi, Kenya – Christ Is The Answer Ministries (CITAM Valley Road) is facing a fierce public backlash after reports emerged that the church allegedly turned away peaceful protestors seeking refuge during the June 25th demonstrations in Nairobi.
The protests, held to commemorate the anniversary of nationwide tax resistance demonstrations, turned violent in several parts of the capital. According to Amnesty Kenya, at least 16 people were killed, while dozens sustained injuries after police opened fire using live bullets and teargas.
As violence erupted, social media was flooded with urgent messages advising stranded demonstrators to seek safety at CITAM Valley Road, a prominent church located near key protest routes. However, multiple online accounts later alleged that the church closed its gates to young protestors fleeing police violence.
“They locked gates on us. They saw people running for their lives and still turned them away,” wrote one distressed user on X (formerly Twitter).
Although CITAM has yet to issue an official statement, the public response online was swift and unforgiving. Critics accused the church of failing in its moral and humanitarian duty, especially given its public identity as a refuge of hope and safety.
