NAIROBI, Kenya, June 26, 2025 – Kenya’s coffee sector posted a strong performance in the 2023/2024 coffee year, with export earnings surging to Sh39.9 billion, a notable rise from Sh34.1 billion recorded in the previous season, according to the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA).
Kenya Coffee Export Volumes Up
The latest AFA report, released by Director Dr. Bruno Linyiru, reveals that Kenya exported 49.5 million kilograms of coffee to over 60 countries, up from 47,957 metric tonnes shipped in 2022/2023.

Top Export Destinations: Belgium, USA, Germany
Belgium emerged as the largest importer of Kenyan coffee, buying 8,275.79 metric tonnes valued at Sh7.42 billion. The United States followed closely, purchasing 7,917.13 metric tonnes worth Sh6.68 billion.

Major Coffee Buyers: Dormans, Ibero, Kenyacof
From October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024, 58 coffee buyers acquired 49,199.09 metric tonnes, with C. Dorman Ltd. leading at 9,048.38 metric tonnes. Other major buyers included:
- Ibero Kenya – 7,769.51 metric tonnes
- Kenyacof – 5,663.50 metric tonnes
- Taylor Winch – 4,172.88 metric tonnes
- Louis Dreyfus – 4,144.27 metric tonnes
- Sasini – 3,066.60 metric tonnes
Brokers, Millers and Cooperative Contributions
In the brokers’ category, Alliance Berries topped with 198,084 bags, followed by New KPCU (150,266) and Kirinyaga Slopes (122,031).
In the millers’ segment:
- New KPCU depots milled 17,847.84 metric tonnes
- Thika Coffee Mills – 1,931.90
- Kirinyaga Mills – 5,339.09
- Murang’a Mills – 152.07
Leading Coffee-Producing Counties
Top coffee-producing counties and volumes in the year included:
- Kiambu – 9 million kilograms
- Kirinyaga – 8.9 million kilograms
- Nyeri – 6.5 million kilograms
- Murang’a – 5.01 million kilograms
Emerging production areas also contributed, including:
- Kajiado – 7,739.80 kg
- Laikipia – 9,872.42 kg
- Taita Taveta – 9,007 kg
Sector Overview and Reforms
The report is the first following the August 2023 coffee reforms introduced at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) aimed at enhancing transparency and boosting returns for farmers.
Coffee expert Henry Kinyua noted that 113,501 acres are currently under coffee farming in Kenya, with 71% under cooperatives.
“Estates occupy 28,552 acres, while cooperative societies cultivate 84,950 acres,” said Kinyua.
